
I finally finished reading the Charles Schulz biography by David Michaelis. There’s been a lot said and written about this book and its supposedly fudging of the details. However, I won’t give any caveats when I say that this was an eye-opening read.
The most interesting thing I learned was just how autobiographical Peanuts was. Between Michaelis’ examples and simply reading the Complete Peanuts books that correspond to passages written in the biography, I was amazed by how much of himself Schulz put into that strip.
After reading this biography, whatever else that will be written about Charles Schulz’s life will first and foremost be held up against Schulz’s own account of it through his art.
